    Abstracted Realism
    This full day workshop will focus on exploring a variety of ways to abstract your imagery while still maintaining a recognizable subject.  We’ll cover when use play/intuition/discernment, creating interesting surfaces, starting from the silhouette, collage, what to leave out and much, much more.  Join us for this exciting, fast moving class!

    Supplies:   Set of acrylic paints, gel medium,  palette, paint brushes (I recommend 3/4″,1″ and, 1.25″ flats and a few smaller brushes) masking tape, full sheet of watercolour paper, a stiff board big enough to mount the paper on,  (or 4-6 small canvas/or boards) roll of paper towel,  sketch/note book, fine, permanent black marker, a ruler, water colour crayons, 2 plastic binder sleeves, reference photos (some will be supplied) any other mark making tools you like, stencils, collage papers (optional – hairdryer)

    Magpies!
    These birds are a bundle of attitude and dynamic aerial maneuvers.  They are also quite beautiful with their reflective blue and green feathers.   Join me to try and capture some of that attitude and beauty in this class devoted to magpies.

     

    Here is the basic format for this live zoom class:  There will be a lesson for approximately 1.5  hour, then participants can either stay and ask questions while they paint or sign off and paint privately.  This is subject to change with whatever works the best.  Personal instruction and feedback will either be in person on-line during the rest of the class or by email.

    Wednesday afternoon live  classes are available at Kensington Art Supply.  With the new vaccination rules, you need to purchase 4 classes at a time. They run consecutively unless for any reason you can not make a particular class.   In that case let me know in advance or just call or email me with at least 48 hours notice and I will move you to a class that works for you.  No shows without notice will forfeit the class.

     In May we’ll be working on animals and how to layer for vibrant colour.  If there is something in particular you want me to teach, let me know!  I will strive to make the schedule flexible. You can purchase classes at any time as long as there is space available.

    Design your own painting of a bear following the steps I’ll demonstrate.  Paint your choice of either a brown or black bear using your own reference photo or choose from those provided.  We’ll cover form,  how to paint realistic fur, noses and light filled eyes.  We also cover how and why to add abstract elements to the painting.  We’ll discuss design, personal style, use of colour etc.  Come join us in this fun and supportive class!
